Ruby is the successful functional programming language Scheme and Common Lisp always deserved to be. But programmers just don't like s-expression syntax. Ruby has all the important features of these earlier functional programming languages, with a mainstream syntax. Because it's garnering reasonably mainstream support, Ruby is the most productive language for general programming around right now. We would still pick REALbasic if we had to make a GUI app, but otherwise, Ruby is great. |
